Vape and Gummies Test Positive for Marijuana in Henderson
Henderson, KY 11/12/21- A Marijuana investigation by the Henderson Police Department (HPD) ends with large amounts of product being seized from local businesses.
According to the release, back in July of 2021 members of the Henderson Police Department received information about marijuana possibly being sold by multiple businesses throughout Henderson. The products being reported to police were labeled as “Delta 8” and “Delta 10” but “Delta 8” and “Delta 10” are legal in Kentucky. Investigating officers were able to locate vape cartridges and gummies at each location. Police say the gummies looked like children’s candy.

After researching these products, investigators of the Henderson Police Department performed controlled buys at 10 locations throughout the City of Henderson. According to investigators, each product purchased during this investigation, field tested positive for “Delta 9” Marijuana. “Delta 9” Marijuana is illegal in Kentucky.

HPD Investigators were able to determine that all of the products labeled “Delta 8” and “Delta 10” where mislabeled with the intent of deceiving the businesses and law enforcement. Beginning on October 26th and continuing through November 10th, members of the Henderson Police Department seized over $30,000 in marijuana products.
“Delta 9” THC is a psychoactive cannabinoid active compound that is associated with the famous marijuana’s characteristic “high”. It also causes a well-known side effect, affectionately referred to as “the munchies”. “Delta 9” THC is not present in raw cannabis plants. There is a process known as decarboxylation (heating the cannabis flower), whereby chemical reactions occur that turn THCa into “Delta 9” THC. THCa is actually non-psychoactive, which means it won’t cause you to feel high. However, once THCa undergoes decarboxylation and turns into “Delta 9” THC, the resulting cannabinoid is psycho-toxic, which means it will cause a high.
The Henderson Police Department says this incident is still under investigation. If you have any further information on this story, please feel free to contact the Henderson Police Department directly or call the Henderson CrimeStoppers anonymously at (270)831-1111.
