Two Men Arrested After ‘Pipe Bomb’ Threat Investigation
Morganfield, KY 8/6/21– The Union County Sheriffs Office received information on Friday of a man being in possession of a “pipe bomb”.
According to reports, the man allegedly made threats to use the bomb to do harm to others. The Sheriffs Office quickly began an investigation into the matter resulting in the execution of a search warrant at an address on Rd 5 near Morganfield.
Deputies with the Sheriffs Office along with assistance from the Kentucky State Police, Owensboro ATF, KSP and FBI Bomb Squads and several investigators executed the warrant and did locate a homemade hazardous device and components to produce a hazardous device inside the residence. Deputies say the device was removed from the residence and detonated in a nearby field due to the unstable and unpredictable nature of the device.
The Whispering Meadows Fire Dept and Emergency Management Agency were instrumental in keeping the scene safe for nearby residents.
Investigating Deputies and Troopers used extreme caution continuing the search of the residence to ensure all dangerous items were removed. During the search, significant amounts of Methamphetamine and items indicative of trafficking Methamphetamine were located as well.

Andrew Nelson (36) was arrested and charged with:
- Possession of a Destructive/Booby Trap Device
- Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree X 4
- Trafficking Cont Substance 1st Degree
- Possession Cont Sub 1st Degree
- Buy/Poss Drug Paraphernalia

Kenneth Nelson (54) was also arrested and charged with:
- Trafficking Cont Sub 1st Degree
- Possession Cont Sub 1st Degree
- Buy/Poss Drug Paraphernalia
- Served two outstanding Henderson County Bench Warrants
The Union County Sheriffs Office would like to thank all agencies involved for assistance in bringing this incident to a safe and relatively speedy conclusion. This is an ongoing investigation at this time.
