Spottsville Bridge Demolition Begins Tuesday

Spottsville, Ky. 10/3/2022- The implosion of the small 161 ft. steel truss at the Spottsville Bridge has been scheduled for Tuesday, October 4th.  The event will take place between 10:30am -12:00 PM CST.

This will be the first phase of a 4 phase plan to demolish the old Spottsville Bridge.  Phase 2 of the demolition plan will focus on the larger 360 ft. structure.  The implosion of the larger 360 ft. steel truss span is currently tentatively scheduled for a later date in October. Phases 3 and 4 will focus on the piers holding up the steel truss spans.

Officials say once the implosion has taken place, an inspection of the implosion results will be conducted prior to the new bridge reopening to traffic. The implosion will require a 1000 ft. clear radius from the structure. A 1500 ft. clear radius is required for boats and watercraft on the Green River.

Motorists traveling on US 60 will be temporarily stopped outside of the 1000 ft. clear area while the implosion operation and post-implosion inspections are conducted.  Traffic and residents on KY 2243 and KY 1078 will also be restricted from entering the 1000 ft. clear area during the implosion operation.  The temporary closure of US 60, KY 2243, and KY 1078 is expected to be in place for approximately 30 minutes.

The implosion blast will be audible for areas directly surrounding the work zone but could be audible for several miles from the work site. Area residents affected by the 1000ft. clear radius have been notified and/or contacted regarding this work, as well as  local police, fire and emergency management. Local schools have been made aware of this event.

Henderson Emergency Management will be joined by the Henderson Sheriffs Office, Henderson Police Department, and the Spottsville Fire Department to close off the area.
