Henderson, KY 8/19/21- The Henderson County Sheriff David Crafton says there was a great ending today on a missing person case the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office has worked on since Tuesday. Sheriff Crafton says Jackie Leeg was located today in a remote area near his lake in Niagara.
According to the statement, Deputy Terry Harmon was performing drone flights for the 3rd day in the area when he spotted the camouflaged colored UTV that was reported missing Tuesday. Deputy Harmon made his way on foot to the area with Deputy Aaron Daniels guiding him using the drone. When he arrived at the UTV, Deputy Harmon discovered Leeg still in the cab while the vehicle laid on its side. Leeg was extricated by member of the Robards Fire Dept. and the Henderson City/County Rescue Squad. With the location being such a remote location, responders had Leeg transported across the lake by boat by the Rescue Squad and then flown out by helicopter.
Jackie Leeg (90) has been missing since Monday afternoon. According to Sheriff Crafton, it appears Leeg had been trapped in the UTV for approximately 72 hours. After he was reported missing to the Sheriff’s Office, Henderson Emergency Management began organizing a search over the 200 acres belonging to Leeg with the help of the following agencies:
Henderson City/County Rescue
Daviess County Search and Rescue
Daviess County Fire
Union County Search and Rescue
Webster County Search and Rescue
Union County Emergency Management
Daviess County Emergency Management
Vanderburgh County Emergency Management
Uniontown Water Rescue
Henderson City Fire
Daviess County Water Rescue
Corydon Civil Defense FD
Niagara Fire Dept
Cairo Fire Dept
Union County Fire Dept.
Responders searched all roads leading from the 200 acre property to the Green River as well as the banks of the Green River. Searches were made by K9, on foot, by drone, by boat, by ATV and on horseback. The search continued from Tuesday morning until Thursday afternoon, when he was located.
“I say all of this to express gratitude to the First Responders from these agencies who came to our aid to help find Jackie. As I thanked them Wednesday evening for their help, one of them responded, “That’s what neighbors are for. You’d do the same for us.” Yes we would.”Henderson Sheriff David Crafton
