Residential Fire Claims Life of Henderson Man

Henderson, KY 1/8/22- The Henderson Fire Department was called to a structure fire just before 2AM on Saturday morning in the 2300 block of Carter Drive. The initial dispatch from Henderson 911 was for a fully involved trailer on fire with a subject possibly trapped inside the home.

According to the press release, fire crews arrived on scene and confirmed a heavily involved trailer fire. Firefighters attempted to make entry into the residence where they encountered heavy fire conditions while a second firefighter crew made entry in the rear of the trailer. The second crew was able to locate an occupant inside the structure. Brenden Bellar (19) was pulled from inside the residence and it was determined by fire crews and EMS crews that he had succumbed to his injuries. The Henderson County Coroner was notified at that time.

Fire officials say a second occupant of the structure made it out and notified the neighbors to call 911 because his house was on fire. The occupant reportedly suffered injuries resulting from the fire and was taken to a medical facility in Evansville by Deaconess EMS, he was released from the hospital a short time later.

The Henderson County Coroner’s office, Kentucky State Fire Marshal’s office, and the Henderson Fire Department are all currently investigating this incident. This fire is still under investigation but it was determined that the home had no working smoke detectors.

The Henderson Fire Department was assisted on this incident by the Henderson Police Department, Henderson County Sheriff’s Office, Henderson EMA, Henderson 911, Deaconess Ambulance Service, HMP&L, Henderson Municipal Gas, Henderson Water utility, Henderson Public Works, American Red Cross, Kentucky State Fire Marshal’s Office, and the Henderson County Coroner’s Office.

“We would like to remind everyone the importance of working smoke detectors,” says Fire Chief Scott Foreman. “Test them on a regular basis to ensure they work.”
