Parks Department Planning to open Atkinson Pool
HENDERSON, Ky.4/5/21– After a season of not being able to open Atkinson Pool during the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Henderson has an eye on summer of 2021. As of now, Atkinson Pool is scheduled to open on Memorial Day weekend, Saturday, May 29. Details are still be worked on to address any changes in how the pool will operate, and those will be announced closer to opening day.
A Lifeguard Class to train personnel for Atkinson Pool will be available at Henderson County Family YMCA starting April 26 and running through May 7. Additional sessions will likely be offered later. The class will be limited to 10 to 12 students at a time due to classroom size and the availability of mannequins for the CPR portion of the training program.
Class cost is $150 for YMCA members and $180 for non-members. Interested parties can sign up and get the detailed schedule from the YMCA, 270-827-9622.
Applications are now being accepted for lifeguarding positions and other positions at Atkinson Pool. Lifeguards must be at least 16 years old by Memorial Day 2021, possess and maintain a valid Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard Certification as well as valid First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification. Typically lifeguards are age-eligible high school students or college students home on summer break.

The application can be found on the City’s web site, www.cityofhendersonky.org or from the Human Resources office on the third floor of the Henderson Municipal Center, 222 First St. Information is available by calling Human Resources at 270-831-4983.
