One Person Rescued From Burning Home By Henderson Firefighters

Henderson, KY 1/13/22- Just before 7PM Wednesday night, the Henderson Fire Department was called to the report of a house on fire in the 800 block of Highway 2084 South.

Upon dispatch, firefighters were advised that it was unknown if anyone was inside of the home. As the first firefighters began to arrive on scene, there was heavy fire conditions reported on the front side of the home which fire officials say is a single-story attached living area which was attached to the two-story home.

As fire crews began a coordinated search and fire attack, dispatch advised command that, per a neighbor, no one was believed to be home. Fire officials say, a short time later, dispatch advised command that they were on the phone with a 911 caller who was saying he was trapped inside the burning home. Command requested Henderson 911 to keep the caller on the line and attempt to obtain further information regarding his location and fire conditions near him. The caller told dispatchers that he was in the basement and gave instructions on the access route.

According to the report, dispatchers remained on the phone with the person inside the burning home until firefighters could locate and rescue him. During the initial rescue efforts of the trapped caller, command received information that there were possibly children trapped inside as well. As firefighters rescued the adult from the home, the information regarding possible children was found to be inaccurate. The fire victim was transported to a local hospital and officials say his condition is unknown.

Firefighters remained on scene for several hours to complete a secondary search and manage remaining hot spots in the area where the fire started. Fire officials say several family pets perished but one was able to be rescued. Henderson firefighters were on scene for approximately three hours. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

The Red Cross is assisting the family at this time. The Henderson Fire Department would like to thank everyone involved for assisting with this fire.

The Henderson Fire Department was assisted by Henderson 911 Dispatch Center, Henderson Police Department, Henderson County Sheriff’s Office, Henderson County Emergency Management, and Deaconess EMS and Evansville AMR. The Corydon Civil Defense Fire Department, Spottsville Community Fire Department, and Zion Fire Departments responded to the city fire stations with fire trucks and manpower to cover the city while firefighters battled the blaze.
