Memorial Day Service | City Cemetery Guidelines For Holiday
HENDERSON, KY, May 17, 2021– In observance of Memorial Day, officials of Fernwood and Fairmont Cemeteries are allowing placement of flowers on burial spaces beginning Friday, May 28. They may remain until Tuesday, June 1.
Flowers and other items left on the ground after Tuesday, June 1, (including solar lights or items that interfere or restrict cemetery mowing and maintenance) will be removed. Flower arrangements that are mounted on markers, monuments or in hanging baskets may remain year round, as long as they do not interfere with the maintenance of the Cemetery or cause any type of danger to visitors, cemetery workers or equipment.
Cemetery officials would like to remind cemetery patrons that glass, ceramic or breakable items are not allowed in the Cemetery at any time.
In Central Park, the American Legion Post 40 has again installed its display of crosses honoring deceased veterans. There are approximately 5,500 crosses in this year’s tribute. Remembrances that have been placed should be picked up by the Tuesday following Memorial Day. This assists with the removal of the crosses, making it easier and safer for volunteers assisting with storing the crosses.

The Henderson War Memorial Foundation is planning its annual Memorial Day service for 10 a.m. Monday, May 31, in Central Park. There is no rain site planned for this year.
