Henderson Sheriff Ed Brady Announces Retirement

Henderson, KY 6/11/21- Henderson County Sheriff Ed Brady is announcing his retirement from the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office after 14-and one-half years as Sheriff and a total of 52 years in Law Enforcement.

Sheriff Brady’s retirement will become effective at midnight June 30th. Brady is currently serving his fourth term which expires the end of December 2022.

Brady began his law enforcement career at the age of 17 on June 10th in 1969 as a Kentucky State Police (KSP) dispatcher at the Henderson State Police Post. As soon as he turned 21, Brady entered the KSP Academy on September 17th in 1972 for his Trooper training.

Upon graduation from the Academy on February 2 in 1973, Brady was assigned to work Daviess County where he remained for two years and in January of 1975, he transferred to Henderson County. Brady was appointed as the Public Affairs Officer for Post 16 in 1982, served in that capacity until his retirement from the State Police in June 1991, and then accepted the position of Chief of Police for the Henderson Police Department.

Brady served as Police Chief for 15-and one-half years when he was elected Sheriff of Henderson County. Brady was sworn in as Sheriff of Henderson County in January of 2007 and has been unopposed in his Sheriff’s races for three consecutive terms.

“I will be turning 70 later this month, and June marks 52 years for me. It just seems like the right time to go. I love everyone I work with and am surrounded by some of the best law enforcement officers I have ever worked with. I still enjoy law enforcement. But everyone has a time and I want a chance to enjoy life after retirement. The thought of retirement does make me nervous, but I would be nervous about retirement if I had done it five years ago or five years from now.”

As for Brady’s plans for the future?

“Immediate plans call for me to clean up a pole barn and paint a gazebo. Really though, a couple of months catching up on projects at home. Then we will see if there are things out there where someone needs me. I can’t see me sitting around very long, especially in the winter.”

As for a succession plan, Sheriff Brady has asked Judge Executive Brad Schneider to appoint his Chief Deputy David Crafton to fill the position until the next election in 2022.

As for any final thoughts as retirement day approaches?

“God has blessed me with wonderful people all my life who loved and supported me. My wife Amy is so important in my life and has always been there. My dad had a servant’s heart as he served as a Trooper until his line of duty death in 1966. My mom has always been in my corner. So many people in the community and across the tri-state have lifted me up. I could not ask for a better life or career than what I have been blessed with. I am very thankful to so many.”
