Henderson Fire Dept travels to Princeton after storms rip through several communities

Princeton, KY 12/11/21- Extensive damage was reported in several communities late Friday night as storms ripped through multiple states. Meteorologists reported a confirmed tornado on the ground which (at last check) traveled approximately 180 miles on the ground. This particular tornado traveled through Mayfield, the Kentucky and Barkley lake area, Princeton and on up to the Madisonville area causing widespread damage.

After reports of the widespread destruction left in the tornado’s path, the Henderson Fire Department gathered up extra personnel and equipment and traveled to Princeton, Ky to assist Emergency Management in the rescue and damage assessment operations. HFD responded with a rescue truck, battalion unit and a team of 5 firefighters.

Governor Andy Beshear declared a State of Emergency just before midnight while multiple agencies responded to “major” damage in several communities.

Just after 11:30 p.m. Friday night, the Kentucky State Police Authorities issued the following statement:

Kentucky State Police, Post 1 is currently responding to a severe tornado event that spreads across multiple counties across Western Kentucky. There is significant damage reported. While no fatalities have been confirmed at this time, loss of life is expected. Multiple agencies from across the purchase area are responding. Updates will follow.

The Kentucky National Guard and Kentucky State Police have been activated in response. Gov. Beshear will be holding an update with Kentucky Division of Emergency Management at 5 A.M. EST in Frankfort Saturday morning.
