Henderson Detention Center Covid Update

Henderson, Ky 4/22/21- On April 13th the Henderson County Jailer Amy Brady reported a Covid-19 outbreak inside the jail with 26 inmates testing positive for COVID-19. She says now that number of inmates testing positive for COVID-19 has jumped in one week from 26 to 34.

We questioned Jailer Brady on the steps they are taking to safe guard all inmates, future inmates, and employees from contracting and/ or spreading the virus even more. She tells us:

  • All inmates are provided masks upon entry;
  • All cells are provided CDC approved chemicals to disinfect for COVID;
  • All inmates are required to wear a mask @ all times outside of their cell;
  • All officers and other persons are screened by medical before obtaining access to the secure areas of the jail;
  • All persons are required to wear the 3-ply medical mask provided by the Henderson County Detention Center to enter the secure area of the facility and at all times in the presence of inmates.

“All inmates are screened by medical upon intake.” says Jailer Amy Brady, “New intakes and any inmates transported outside the jail are quarantined for 2 weeks upon entry and medical clearance is required before an inmate is move into a long-term housing cell.”

Current Detention Center Stats:

  • NUMBER OF CELLS W/ 1 OR MORE COVID POSITIVE INMATE:  10
  • RECENT TESTING DATE:  APRIL 19
  • NEW COVID POSITIVE:  7
  • TOTAL NUMBER COVID POSITIVE:  34
  • PREVIOUSLY REPORTED POSITIVE & NOW COVID NEGATIVE:  12

Medical staff is medically monitoring (no less than 3 times in a 24 hr period) and providing necessary care to covid positive inmates. Brady says inmates with the virus who are released from jail are encouraged to quarantine and contact the Health Department so staff there can follow-up with them.

“As of today, over ½ of the inmate population has been vaccinated!” Jailer Brady tells HendersonWatch, “Our local health department has been absolutely amazing to work with!”
