Henderson Deputy Struck During Pursuit From Evansville
Henderson, KY 11/07/21- On Sunday, Henderson County Sheriff’s Deputies and Henderson Police Officers were made aware of a vehicle attempting to flee from Evansville Police (EPD) in Indiana.
According to police, just after 10PM, EPD attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle and during the attempt, the
vehicle fled from Evansville into Henderson. Henderson Police (HPD) observed the vehicle inside the city limits and followed it towards Palmer’s Gas Station, where a traffic stop was initiated and spike strips were laid by another HPD officer.
During this stop, deputies with the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) say the vehicle in question swerved towards a HCSO deputy’s cruiser in the opposite lane of travel, nearly causing a head-on collision before turning southbound onto the Interstate 69 ramp. HCSO then initiated pursuit and observed the vehicle drive recklessly around several vehicles before turning onto the exit ramp for Audubon parkway.
HCSO maintained pursuit and watched as the vehicle in question swerved back and forth several times from the left lane to the right lane. The vehicle swerved and then suddenly took the Zion Exit (Exit 5) and turned left towards Zion. This prompted Deputy Bennett with HCSO to pass the vehicle on the overpass in an attempt to slow it down prior to reaching the more populated town of Zion to limit the risk of damage to people or property. The driver of the pursued vehicle struck Deputy Bennett’s cruiser on the right side and then the bridge wall before spinning out of control in front of the cruiser at which time the driver was taken into custody without further incident.

The driver, identified as Chancellor Stark, 20 of Evansville, had a full extradition warrant from Vanderburgh County for the following charges:
- Theft of a Motor Vehicle
- Possession of Meth
- Forgery
Stark was transported to the Henderson County Detention Center and further charged with:
- Wanton Endangerment 1st (Police Officer)
- Fleeing and Evading 1st (Motor Vehicle)
- No Driver’s License
- Failure to Maintain Insurance
- Fugitive From Another State
