Henderson City Parks Dept Will Plant Trees For Arbor Day

HENDERSON, KY 4/26/21– The Gathering Place Seniors Citizens Center will get a new Weeping Cherry Tree on April 30 when the City of Henderson celebrates Arbor Day 2021.

Due to the continuing situation with the COVID-19 virus, the formal celebration of Arbor Day has been scaled down for the second year. According to Henderson’s Public Information Officer Donna Stinnett, there was no Arbor Day Coloring Contest this year for grades K-3 and will be no formal ceremony for the tree-planting.

The City of Henderson is the recipient of the Tree City USA designation from the Kentucky Divisions of Forestry for the 26th consecutive year. The Arbor Day Foundation, in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Service, sponsors the Tree City USA program. Tree City USA recognizes communities that have proven their commitment to an effective, ongoing community forestry program.

“Trees in our city increase property values, enhance the economic vitality of business areas and beautify our community,” said Mayor Steve Austin. “Trees, wherever they are planted, are a source of joy and spiritual renewal.”
