Helicopter Transports After Single Vehicle Accident in Cairo
Henderson, KY 4/23/22 – Just before 4PM Saturday, the Cairo Fire Department, Henderson City/ County Rescue Squad, Deaconess Henderson EMS and the Henderson Sheriff’s Office were called to the 14,000 block of Highway 41 Alternate in Henderson County for a single vehicle crash.
According to deputies on scene, a 2006 VW Jetta, driven by Mary Jo Phelps of Corydon, ran off the roadway striking a concrete culvert causing it to become airborne. The vehicle landed upside down back on the roadway before sliding approximately 50 yards and coming to rest, still upside down.
Officials say the driver was transported by EMS to Deaconess Henderson Hospital where a medical helicopter provided faster transport to an Evansville Hospital. Highway 41-A was closed for approximately 45 minutes while firefighters and rescue personnel worked to clear the roadway. The current condition of the driver is unknown.
