Fourth Man Arrested in Ongoing Detention Center Investigation

HENDERSON, KY 10-2-21- On Saturday the Henderson Police Department was called to a vacant lot in the 900 block of Powell Street in reference to a naked subject possibly trespassing.

Once officers arrived in the area, they were able to locate a Richard Stewart, 61 of Henderson. Stewart is wanted in an ongoing investigation on a Pennyrile Narcotics Task Force (PNTF) drug trafficking warrant. Officers also located a plastic bag containing several grams of suspected Methamphetamine along with an amount of cash in the floor next to Richard Stewart. Henderson Police arrested Stewart and transported him to the Henderson County Detention Center.

During the PNTF investigation, Stewart is the fourth person to be arrested in a conspiracy where an employee with the Henderson County Detention Center was paid money to bring in contraband and drugs into the Detention Center. Detectives with the PNTF and Detention Center Investigators were able to intercept a large package of tobacco and Methamphetamine brought into the jail by Deputy Jailer Jason Evans, 47 of Evansville.

Deputy Evans was supposed to deliver the suspected contraband package to inmates Colby Pruitt (30) and Charles Stewart (32) both of Henderson. Upon further investigation, detectives learned Charles Stewart had outside contact with Richard Stewart informing him to make contact with Deputy Jailer Evans to drop off the package for delivery to the Henderson Detention Center.

After intercepting the package containing approximately 113.0 grams of tobacco and approximately 10.0 grams of suspected Methamphetamine, a controlled delivery was set up by PNTF detectives and Detention Center Investigators where inmate Colby Pruitt and Charles Stewart were to receive the delivery of the package. The delivery was closely monitored and Colby Pruitt was taken down after receiving the package.

During the investigation, detectives learned Colby Pruitt was instructed to contact Deputy Evans about making some extra money and then given a phone number to call belonging to Richard Stewart who set up the delivery.

Colby Pruitt, Charles Stewart and Deputy Jailer Jason Evans were all three arrested in July of this year.


Richard Stewart (61), Colby A. PRUITT (30) and Charles Stewart (32) were charged for:

  • TRAFFICKING CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE 1ST. METH. >2 GRAMS
  • PROMOTING CONTRABAND 1st (Methamphetamine)
  • PROMOTING CONTRABAND 2nd (Tobacco)

Jason A. EVANS (47) was arrested and charged for:

  • TRAFFICKING CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE 1ST. (METH>2 GRAMS)

Richard Stewart was additionally charged for:

  • PAROLE VIOLATION WARRANT
  • TRAFFICKING CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE 1ST. (METH>2 GRAMS)

This investigation is still ongoing at this time as other inmates are believed to be involved. According to Detective Mills with the PNTF, Jailer Amy Brady and her Staff were deeply involved in the investigation, working with detectives with Task Force who is also being assisted by the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office.
