UPDATE2: Henderson , KY 6/27/21- Authorities have identified the man that went missing early Saturday in the Ohio River after a witness says he lost control of the net and went into the river to get it. Officials say Kue Gay, 24 of Owensboro, was fishing near the Newburgh Locks and Dam with a cast net. Officials said a witness tried to save the man but could not, which is when they contacted 911 for help.
Henderson City-County Rescue Squad Chief Bryan Coghill says search recovery efforts continued into the evening on Saturday but then started again early Sunday morning and went into the afternoon. Volunteers with the Henderson City-County Rescue Squad began searching early Sunday morning and units from the Ky Fish and Wildlife and Newburgh Fire Department came out to assist the Rescue Squad later in the morning.
UPDATE: Henderson, KY 6/26/21- Search efforts have been halted for a missing fisherman on the Ohio River near Newburgh due to river conditions worsening and becoming to hazardous for first responders. Search and Rescue officials say this is now a body recovery search.
Henderson, KY 6/26/21- Just before 2 AM Saturday morning the Henderson City-County Rescue Squad, Henderson Fire Department Dive Team, and the Henderson Police Department Water Team were called out for a water rescue near the Newburgh Locks & Dam. Initial reports told responders the two men were fishing from the dam when the incident occurred. After falling in, one man was pulled from the water and one man is still missing.
Rescue efforts have been underway for several hours overnight. Officials tell HendersonWatch the missing person they are looking for is a male in his 40’s.
Currently on scene at the Newburgh site is Henderson City-County Rescue Squad, Henderson Fire Department, Newburgh Fire Department, Perry Township, Henderson Emergency Management, and Indiana DNR with units from Marrs Township and Daviess County enroute to the scene. Crews are still on the river searching for the missing man with several different operations taking place. Henderson Emergency Management is using their drone to survey the River and the banks while rescue crews continue to search in boats.
