Fireworks possibly the cause for school lockdown on Tuesday
Henderson, KY 9/21/21- Just after 3PM on Tuesday, officers with the Henderson Police Department (HPD) were dispatched to the area of Irish Ivy Lane for the report of possible gun shots being fired.
The caller told the dispatchers they heard two shots in the area but did not have an exact address. According to HPD, at approximately 3:15PM, officers had Henderson dispatch contact Henderson County High School, East
Heights and North Middle School to have them lock down the schools while officers investigated.
After approximately five minutes officers found the area to be safe and had the schools reopen. Officers later received a report of a child in a garage who had set off fireworks. The caller told police he found two fireworks that had been set off and he wanted to apologize for any disruption this may have caused.
Henderson School officials sent a onecall style message out to parents just before 4PM informing them of the situation and letting parents know the incident was under control and everything had returned to normal operation.
