City Appoints Acting Police Chief For Henderson
Henderson, KY 2/28/22– On Tuesday, March 1st, Deputy Police Chief Sean McKinney will become Acting Police Chief to replace Chief Heath Cox, who is retiring today, Feb. 28th.
According to a report from Donna Stinnett, Public Information Officer for the City of Henderson, McKinney has served as Deputy Police Chief since July 1, 2019, and is a U.S. Army veteran who retired with the rank of captain from the Kentucky State Police. Stinnett says McKinney also holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Murray State University and worked for the Kentucky State Police for 17 ½ years from January 2001 to August 2018. He began there as a trooper before promoting to sergeant, lieutenant and finally captain. McKinney previously worked for HPD from November 1997 to January 2001.

As captain with Kentucky State Police he was commander over the Drug Enforcement Special Investigations unit that serves 63 counties in Western Kentucky. He also oversaw criminal cases throughout Western Kentucky. McKinney is a native of Marion, Ky.
City Manager Buzzy Newman says the administration is working on the process and timeline for hiring a permanent replacement for Chief Cox, who was honored with a retirement reception on Feb. 28th.
