Citizens Rush to Assist Officer Fighting to Make an Arrest
Henderson, KY 6/26/21- The Henderson Police Department was called to Pizza Hut on Hwy 41 in reference to the report of a man trespassing on the property just before 5PM last Saturday.
When officers arrived on scene the man, identified as Jerry Powell, 25 of Henderson, began to walk away from officers, disregarding the officer’s orders to stop to investigate the call. As Powell approached Hwy 41, an officer attempted to detain Powell. Powell pulled away resulting in Powell and the officer going to the ground in the roadway on US 41 North.
According to the report, the officer struggled with Powell as he resisted arrest, fighting to detain him. With traffic stopping close by, citizens rushed to the officers side and helped the officer get Powell into cuffs and out of the roadway.
Powell was placed under arrest and charged for:
- Fleeing 1st Degree (on foot);
- Resisting arrest.
The Henderson Police Department would also like to thank the citizens who stepped in to help our officer in need. We would also like to thank those that called to inform dispatch of the situation to get help on the way when the officer could not.
