Atkinson Pool Finally Opening July 3rd
HENDERSON, KY 6/28/21 – It’s been a struggle filled with various obstacles to overcome, but Atkinson Pool is finally scheduled to re-open on Saturday, July 3.
- Pool hours will be Monday-Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1-6 p.m.
- Admissions cost is $2.50 for children and $3 for adults.
After having been closed for a full summer season during the COVID-19 pandemic, the original plan had been to open the municipal pool this year as normal for the Memorial Day Weekend. However, like many local businesses trying to reboot post-pandemic, the City of Henderson was initially unable to hire enough staff – particularly lifeguards — to operate the pool safely.
After making a couple of tweaks — in eligible age for employment as a lifeguard and the per-hour pay scale for the position – the City has now trained, certified and hired adequate staff to operate all features of the pool complex and is in the process of conducting orientation for them.
The final day for daily operation of Atkinson Pool for the summer season will be Aug. 9, but if staffing allows, the Parks Dept. may keep the pool open on weekends through the Labor Day weekend.
The water feature at the downtown Henderson riverfront and the Splash Pad at East End Park will continue to operate as well, though the downtown water feature may close for the season earlier than usual to allow for repairs that are needed.
