Arrest Made in Last Weeks Shooting

Henderson, Ky 5/3/21- Last Wednesday, the Henderson Police Department was called to the 1400 block of Woodland Drive to the apartment complex for the report of a shooting.

According to investigators, officers on scene interviewed several witnesses and then had the suspect Thomas Murphy, 28 of Reed, transported to the Henderson Police Department for questioning. Murphy told police that he grabbed his girlfriend from behind trying to talk to her this morning. Murphy says he had his arms were around her chest/neck area. After the incident, Murphy believes the girlfriend called a friend because of the incident.

Murphy says a short time after grabbing her, another male subject arrived at the apartment with a gun. Murphy says he “stepped toward” the man at which time the male pointed a gun at him and he “stepped toward” him again. The man then allegedly hit Murphy with a gun, causing a fight to break out. The male dropped the gun, and Murphy says he grabbed it.

Murphy admitted to investigators that he fired two rounds at the male after the man ran out of the apartment. Murphy does not live at that apartment and says that the resident had asked him to leave.

According to the report, officers say Murphy threw the gun in a wooded area nearby, but it was later recovered. The report also says Murphy took a guilty plea on 3/5/18 for ‘Convicted Felon Possession of Firearm and Wanton
Endangerment 1st Degree’. Thomas was sentenced 10 years in that case.
