Henderson, KY 5/15/21- Officers with the Henderson Police Department were called to investigate a possible abduction on Saturday involving a black Jeep near the intersection of First and Clark Streets.
Officers located the vehicle in question when they arrived in the area, but once they attempted to make a traffic stop on the vehicle a passenger, later identified as Christopher Smith, ran from the vehicle.
According to police, after a short foot pursuit, Smith was apprehended and found to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine. The report also says it was determined that Smith had multiple arrest warrants.
HPD was contacted by residents in the area where the foot pursuit took place and were advised Smith, while running from officers, dropped a firearm. Investigating officers were able to locate the firearm in a driveway where Smith had ran.
As for the original dispatch to investigate, there was NO abduction.
Smith was arrested and charged with the following charges:
- Possession of Handgun by Convicted Felon
- Trafficking in Controlled Substance 1st Degree, 2nd or > Offense (Methamphetamine)
- Trafficking Drugs with 1000 Feet of a School
- Fleeing or Evading Police 1st Degree (On Foot)
- Possession of Marijuana
- Drug Paraphernalia-Buy/Possess
